DJ Thanujika aka TGK is another highlighted icon of local DJ industry. He is vastly recognized as the initiator of the digital DJ culture in Sri Lanka which has grown rapidly amongst the local DJs. Thanujika is a DJ that entertains crowds with diverse music styles and never stops to amaze crowds with his unique selection for tracks. He also is well known for his stage acts with top local hip-hop artistes. From his extensive years as a DJ, he holds a mammoth size music database which has multiple music styles to accommodate any event or club gig, although his passion lies in house music. TGK’s DJ influences have been David Morales and Jazzy Jeff. He started his DJ Career as mobile DJ for Cool Tempo Entertainers, under Kamesh Malvenna. Playing commercial and hip hop music at private events whilst supervising sound set ups and handling calibration of audio equipment on site. He started cub DJing at the Oldest and the symbolic icon of Colombo city’s Grand Oriental Hotel Club, the Blue leopard where he was also in charge of entertainment and maintained the audio systems at the club premises. In addition he aided in building a membership base via patron-DJ interaction with Resident DJ Manju. In year 2005 He joined the premier Lounge bars in Sri Lanka, Glow and Tantra which was the first venue in Sri Lanka to use a modern Digital Vinyl system (RANE/Serato Scratch Live) which was installed by DJ Thanujika himself. Playing eight hour shifts between both bars on weekends, Thanujika was  rated the ‘Most Wanted DJ - 2006’ by a Colombonightlife (CNL) poll and played beside top act DJ Nihal (BBC Radio Asian Channel) in 2005. He then moved to the Taj Samudra discotheque, Club Nuovo ( www.clubnuovo.com ) in 2006 (Formerly Onyx) as the resident DJ. Also, managing daily DJ roster for the club and playing alongside international acts such DJ Omi (NY) and the Hed-Kandi DJs.

He was then called up by Sri Lanka Hip-hop Super Star Iraj in 2006 to perform live acts with the ill Nozie Crew ( www.irajonlive.com ). Apart from club gigs his performances include;

Thanujika deserves all the credit for introduced the modern Digital Vinyl simulation Master piece Rane/Serato Scratch live to Sri Lanka. This system controls digital music files with existing DJ setups such as Turntables or CD players. Since he is an enthusiast in Vinyl, the style remains same and the more accurate performance can be given through this system. He always believes that the “Art of DJing” lies with Turntables and Records. He educates and provides demonstrations about this system to DJs who are interested and hopes to enhance the level of DJing in Sri Lanka. At present he conducts DJ lessons and works alongside top producer Ranga D (The Hit Factory). His Future Goals are to educate the new comers to the scene on the DJ culture and its trends and perform internationally whilst taking the Sri Lankan DJ industry to new heights. Thanujika who has over 15 years of experience in business is currently helping amateur DJs enhance their knowledge while guiding them to become recognize DJs in Sri Lanka. You can find him performing on weekends at Club Nuovo and be guaranteed to experience a musical journey unlike any other.
