Dilruk is a Colombo-based DJ with a driving beat and an aggressively risky mixing technique and performs every set with an amazing level of skill. For over ten years he has brought his vigorous style and enthusiastic stage presence to events throughout Colombo and suburbs and also performed internationally.
Like most of us, Dilruk started off as a bedroom DJ and eventually progressed in to the mobile scene under the watchful guidance of Himal Perera of Paramount Entertainers. Among the many awards he has won, he still cherishes his first medal at the Interact Grammys 2001; where he was crowned in the best DJ. This led him to work for one of the leading DJ outfits in Sri Lanka “Cool Tempo Entertainers” as a part time mobile jock and got to brush shoulders with industry experts such as DJ Sam, DJ Mass Ramli, DJ Kamo etc. Stepping aside from the mobile he the moved to the club scene around 2003 and literally took Colombo by storm. From then until around 2007 he held the position of Resident DJ at the well known “Clancy’s” and also played guest sessions at H20 and R&B. The peak in Dilruk’s career was winning the Denon DJ of the year title in 2006 which spring boarded his career to a whole new level. The exposure and the experience gained by winning this competition according to Dilruk is a ‘once in a once in a lifetime’ experience. He was also the resident DJ at the Rehab Lounge/ Club during the early part of 2008.
DJ Dilruk is currently one half of “Asylum Corp Productions” which is a leading Event Management company in Sri Lanka. They are responsible for organizing events which took Colombo by storm, such as Electro Therapy and Tribal X-treme. Dilruk links the word future with greater heights as he is ready to step his game up and achieve the best, as he has done in such a short span of time. So the future awaits and he says ‘I will face it with lot of hope and courage as it’s only just begun’.

Something of an anomaly in music… a humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields. A steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive CD library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (Funk, Soul and Jazz), foundation (Hip-Hop) and future (Electronic/Dance music), with no restraints.
It’s true that there are other likeminded DJs in the industry comparable to DJ Dilruk, but for the most part, they choose a genre and master it. Ask them to flip another variety with the same intense knowledge and sleek-savvy and you’ll be hard pressed to find someone that’ll do it to Dilruk’s extent. Remaining a musician for the ages, Dilruk’s true successes happily waits in the future. Won’t you come along for the ride?
When did you first start playing, and for whom? Can you explain your beginnings as a Dj and where you are today?
Let’s say i first started to play officially when i was 16 yrs old…the very first day as a Dj was blood pumping i nearly fainted from the excitement and rush of blood n music to my brains!!

By watching a local DJ spin discs at a house party
Do you have any residencies in any nightclubs?
Well yes…Clancy’s and H2O & Bistro Latino (REHAB). I also had my hands in clubs & pubs like …the blue elephant, rhythm & blues, the blue leopard etc.
For how long have you been a Dj now? Over 10 Years.
Have you ever mix for radio stations?
Yep, I have mixed 4 a radio station n gone live on air with my music on 96.1 fm
Have you played to dance floors different from Sri Lanka? Yes, in the Maldives
Any famous parties or gigs you made happen in Sri Lanka? Electro Therapy, Tribal Xtreme, Fatman Scoop - New Year’s Eve 2005, Opening Night of H2O & REHAB.
